    Uphill skiing may sound like some gravity-defying magic trick, but it's a popular activity at Silver Creek Ski Area. Also known as Alpine touring, uphill skiing bypasses the lifts for a calorie-burning climb to the summit before gliding back down. Silver Creek is also known for its legendary night skiing sessions when the trails take on an almost otherworldly aura. Get the adrenaline pumping at Silver Creek's five terrain parks that accommodate all riders, from newbies to veteran shredders.   • Autumn Breeze Stables - Snowshoe, WV 26209
    Take in the majestic beauty of Snowshoe Mountain and the surrounding area during a leisurely horseback ride at Autumn Breeze Stables. Guided trips of one to four hours, appropriate for riders of all skill levels, are offered year-round. Sights from various points in the trails include Silver Creek Lake, the Blue Ridge Mountains, Snowshoe Resort, and the Monongahela National Forest. Kids 8 and under can take the 30-minute lake rides, while sleigh and carriage rides are fun for the whole family. Rates start at $30.

  • Split Rock Pools - 10 Snowshoe Dr., Snowshoe, WV 26209
    Swimming isn't just for summer anymore. At Split Rock Pools, you can splash around the toasty-warm outdoor pool even when it's snowing. Zip down the water slide for added thrills. There's also a heated indoor pool, along with a hot tub and sauna, which are great places to unwind after a day on the slopes. Access to Split Rock Pools is free if you book lodging through Snowshoe Reservations. The pools are open to the public for admission of $15 per day.

  • Snowmobile Tour - 10 Snowshoe Dr., Snowshoe, WV 26209
    The backcountry takes on a whole new appearance when it's covered with a blanket of snow. Explore the depths of the Snowshoe Mountain wilderness during a 1.5-hour Snowmobile Tour. Zip along through open fields and old-growth spruce forests, crossing frozen creeks along the way. If you're new to snowmobiling, try the one-hour evening tour. During these rides along the slopes of the Snowshoe Basin, kids ages 6-15 are permitted as passengers for the early-evening tours. Prices range from $59-$195.

  • Adventure Dining Tour - 75 Top of the World Dr., Snowshoe, WV 26209
    Plan a once-in-a-lifetime experience with family and friends on an Adventure Dining Tour. Travel in off-road vehicles to the Backcountry Hut, which accommodates up to 12 guests. Pricing starts at $179 for two at lunch and $275 for two at dinner.
